The First

Today was the first of my many prenatal visits to come! I guess after two babies, the nurses and doctors feel that you have the routine down, and that the feelings of excitement are up to you, the new mommy. I did leave with a large tote bag filled with new mommy goodies, as well as a free massage for my hands, feet, and back from their rejuvenation spa next door.

So, I had to do the typical pee in the cup, and then head off for blood work at the lab, where they wanted me to leave another sample! How was this to happen in a matter of 15 minutes after I just went? The phlebotomist gave me a cup and pointed me to the location of the water, and told me to drink up til I had the urge. Let me tell you, for some reason, the thought of having to drink one more sip of water was making me gag!

I also had the sheer enjoyment of having my veins poked and prodded in an unsuccessful attempt at drawing my blood. I finally had to be a wimp and let her know that she was really hurting me by fishing the needle around in my arm to find the vein she lost! She apologized and then brought out the butterfly needle, hey you gotta do what you gotta do!

Needless to say, the first appointment for baby Aguiar #3 was not the greatest of my prenatal experiences thus far!

I cannot wait until these visits are over! I have had so many terrible blood draw experiences during my three pregnancies... I almost always come home completely sore and bruised. This time I experienced the worst of it, though. I had to have an iv when I went into the emergency room early on, and the iv infiltrated and my arm was filling up with air! I was crying in my room all alone and calling out for someone - ANYONE! - to come and rescue me. I will never forget it. It still hurts me to this day, like my skin is loose there or something. It gives me the chills just thinking about it.

ANYWAY! I have not had the pleasure of being stuck with a butterfly needle, though. That doesn't sound fun at all!

Well, my dearie, here's to more pleasant check-ups in the future months ahead.

:O) Love, Susan
